Level 1: BOLIVIA - Tiwanaku
The game begins with a cut scene. Young Lara and her mother are in flight. Lara is holding a book and says to her the mother that just because no one caught one, it does not mean that they are not real. Lara's mother unpins a pendant from the lapel of her coat and puts it on the seat. She then says that they probably do not wish to be found. They both refer to the yetis, as Lara's drawing indicates. Lara is suddently distracted by a bright light outside of the plane. "Look", she tells her mother, at the same time as the plane hits turbulance. Lara's mother asks Henry, one of the pilots, what is happening and he replies that one of the engines has malfunctioned. The co-pilot radios for help. Lara's mother puts Lara on the seat and fastens her belt. Lara asks if they are going to crash and her mother - while fastening her seat belt - says that they will not, unless it is absolutely necessary. The alarm starts and Lara's mother asks her to close her eyes, but she does not want to. The cockpit explodes and white light envelopes the scene. Back to present, the next cut scene shows Lara climbing some rocks. Zip is coaching via her headset. He can see what Lara sees and provides a humerous commentary about wanting to throw up every time Lara looks down. He then tells her that Alister is back. The latter grabs a headset and asks her what she is doing in Bolivia. Lara does not reply... She spots a lower rock and makes a swan dive and grabs it! She then replies "Ascending". She pulls up and asks him to meet Tiwanaku, a lovely pre-Incan civilization, currently in ruins. She also tells him that she has been looking for some artifacts, specifically some ornate stone dais, among other things. You begin the level at the top of the rocks that Lara climbed up during the last cut scene. Lara is here because Anaya called her and told her about an ancient temple that contains an ornate stone dais. So, your main objective is to find the ancient stone dais of Tiwanaku. [Checkpoint] From the starting position, head forwards and then left beneath the rocks, where you will find a Bronze Knife (1/10). Go back to the starting position and turn left (or right, if the cliff is to your back) and approach the stone ledge. You receive instructions on how you can jump. Stand against the rocks and press Jump. Lara will grab the edge automatically. To release, press Crouch\ Roll. Press Jump again to pull up. Do the same for the next ledge to climb up it. Just to the left, you will see a small rock. Approach it and press the Interact button to kick it. Before going to the pool on the left, enter the alcove on the right to collect a Bronze Knife (2/10). Jump into the pool. To swim on the surface, use the direction keys. If you want to dive into the water, press the Crouch\ Roll button. Use the direction keys to swim around. To swim upwards and surface, press Jump. Locate the low ledge on the other side. When Lara reaches it, she will climb out of the water automatically. Climb up on to the next ledge. In the cut scene, Zip asks Lara to check her PDA. Lara does so, and she says that it works, if this is what Zip is wondering about. He just checked if it was waterproof as they told him. Continue to the left, where a movable boulder blocks your way. To grab it, press the Interact button. Use the direction keys to move it around. To release it, press the Interact button again. Lara cannot pull it, so push it over the gap to reveal a ledge just ahead. Jump onto it. [Checkpoint] Approach the vine on the right and Lara will grab it automatically. Climb up it until you reach a second vine on your right (to climb quicker, press the Interact button whilst climbing up). Press right and Jump to leap off the vine and grab the other one. Again, press right and Jump to reach the ledge. Go to the right. [Checkpoint] When you reach the edge, jump to grab the rope (jump towards it and Lara will grab it automatically). When you do that, Zip comments that the video is going to make him sick if Lara keeps on swinging. Lara then replies that he should look away from the screen. There are two caves: one on the left and one straight ahead behind the waterfall. First, explore the left cave. Turn left and swing towards it and press Jump when you reach the highest point. Turn on your PLS (Portable Light Source). Follow the tunnel and get the Silver Knife (1/5). Drop down at the end (press the Crouch button whilst hanging) to reach the other alcove, which is behind the waterfall. Exit to the other side and jump to grab the opposite ledge. If you accidentally fall down, you can climb on the ledge in front of the alcove and try again. When you pull up, the cut scene shows the area and river above the alcove. When you regain control of Lara, she will look at a crevice in the wall above, which leads to the river. Jump up to grab it and shimmy to the left. Zip asks Lara to be careful, but this is a long trip, as Lara says, and he would to better taking deep breaths. Lara is very optimistic, Zip comments. Continue shimming to the left around the corner. To shimmy faster, press the Interact button while shimming. When you reach the end, jump to grab the ledge behind you. Pull up. At the top of the waterfall - [Checkpoint] Go up the stream, hugging the right hand wall, because a boulder rolls from above. Or, from the bottom of the stream, enable the Accurate Aim* and shoot the sticks around the boulder to make it roll down (as shown in this screenshot - thanks to Carolann for the tip). When it passes, continue up the stream. Lara will look at the horizontal pole above. Step on the low rock behind the pole and jump to grab it. Move to the left and face the next pole. Press forward to swing towards it and jump to grab it. Then jump to grab the left hand part of the waterfall. Shimmy to the right and whilst pressing right, press Jump to grab the right hand part. [*Note: The Accurate Aim allows you aim at various objects. On the PC version it is the Z button (by default). The PS2 players need to press the right analog stick. Press it down (not move it down) and you will feel a "click". We are not aware of the other versions, but you can check the Control Configuration of the game. You will see it as either Accurate Aim or Manual Aim.] The cut scene, shows Lara listening to a guard. He talks to someone through a radio device, who obviously told him that someone is close. The guard replies that he does not see any climber and cannot shoot on sight if he cannot see anybody. Pull up. The guard is still talking. Lock the target and shoot him until he is dead. Zip asks Lara if she has any idea who he is, but Lara says that he is unremarkable. "Is this good or bad?", Zip asks, and Lara replies that it is deliberate, which is not good. The man drops a Health pack, so pick it up. (Note - The maximum amount of Health Packs you can carry is three.) Use your Binoculars and activate the R.A.D. mode. Look around to spot the moving object beyond. Lara says it is a mechanism. Go to the left of the mechanism and get the Bronze Knife (3/10). Take a look above to spot the movable boulder. You can either: • Jump on the wooden platform (mechanism) and quickly jump to grab the ledge where the boulder is. Make sure to press and hold the Jump button to jump higher and farther. Pull up. • If you cannot do the above, grab the ledge beneath the boulder and shimmy to the right around the corner. When you see another ledge above, and whilst hanging, press Jump to grab it. Pull up. (Both ways are shown in this screenshot.) Grab the boulder and push it fowards to throw it on the front side of the wooden platform. This will raise the other end. Drop down, climb on the rock next to the wooden platform, and jump to grab the horizontal pole. Swing and jump to grab the ledge with the two waterfalls ahead. Pull up and continue ahead. [Checkpoint] Use the Grapple to catch the shimmering circular door ahead and press the Interact button to pull it. To release the Grapple, press the same button you used. Go through the doorway. The cut scene shows two guards talking and Lara entering sneakily. Kill the two guards. Press the Combat Lock button to lock on an enemy and shoot. Rotate Lara to aim at the other enemy. Zip asks Lara who these guys are. He finds it weird that some ruins are guarded this way. Vault onto the rock on the left and jump up to grab the ledge (as shown here). Shimmy to the left without stopping until you reach the end. The middle part of the ledge collapses, so if you fall down, you need to grab the ledge again, but this time jump to grab the left part. Jump to grab the horizontal pole behind and then the narrow ledge of the pillar on the other side. Traverse to the left around the corner, and while hanging, jump to grab the next ledge. Press Jump again to reach the ledge above. [Checkpoint] Jump to grab the rope, swing and jump to the opposite side behind the waterfall (exactly above the ledge that collapsed - if it did for you). Go behind the waterfall and climb into the alcove, where you will find a Bronze Knife (4/10). You can get this Reward from the ledge before grabbing the rope: Use the Grapple to catch it, then grab the rope and swing to the right of the waterfall (thanks to Bruce for this tip). Drop down, continue to the other side of the ledge and jump to grab the horizontal pole. Swing and jump to grab the second one. Finally jump to the opposite ledge. [Checkpoint] Draw your weapon and follow the passage. A guard will start shooting at you from the right, so dispense with him. Approach the broken part of the bridge and take a look above to spot the shimmering sign. Jump over the gap and quickly press Jump again. Lara will use the Grapple to catch the sign and use it as a rope. Swing and jump to the opposite side (by pressing Jump, you also release the Grapple). When you jump off the ledge, a part of the bridge collapses, which allows you return back up and try again if you accidentally fall down, without having to take the long route (see this screenshot). Go up the steps and through the doorway. Notice the Bronze Knife (5/10) on the left. You cannot reach it, so back up a bit and use the Grapple to retrieve it. Follow the passage around to the left. In the next cut scene, Lara talks to Zip. She comments on the Temple that she can see beyond. She says she is very beautiful and that she is falling in love with her all over again. Zip is used to hearing Lara talking this way and replies that she says the same thing to all the ruins. Lara says she is a lucky girl and then uses her Binoculars to scoot the area around. She sees a helicopter. The bloody tourists are coming again to spoil it. Zip asks Lara what she sees and she says some men, probably mercenaries, judging from the look. Zip again wonders what they are doing there. "Getting into trouble", Lara replies. [Checkpoint] There are several guards down there, so stay on your toes. From this position, press the Combat Lock button and then the Interact button to throw down the nearby rocks, luckily killing two of the guards that are patrolling at the bottom of the slope. Slide down the slope with your weapons drawn. Two more guards will apear from the left, so kill them. Depending on the difficulty mode you play, they will drop up to three Health Packs. If you already have three of them, you cannot pick up any more. Heal Lara after the battle and pick up the Health Packs you need. Opposite the slope you can find a Bronze Knife (6/10) inside an alcove. Head up the slope next to the one you slid and draw weapons. Kill another guard, who drops a Health Pack and his SMG gun. Pick up the gun and before using the rope, drop down to the other side and go to the right, where you will find a Bronze Knife (7/10). Return back and jump to grab the rope. Swing towards the ledge on the other side and jump there. There are six guards to the right down the slope and you can probably see only four of them. Draw wepons and slide down the slope. Press the Interact button to shoot the decrepit pillar on the left and kill the guards that patrol below. Be careful not to fall down when you pass the stone bridge. You can use the low walls for cover, but if the guys take a lot of your health, you can return back to where you left the other Health Packs. When all guards are dead, pick up the items they dropped if you need them. Four of them dropped their RC650 Assault Rifle, but if you decide to get it (you get one and the others count as ammo) you need to drop the SMG gun. Heal Lara and pick up one or both Health Packs the guards dropped. Facing the steps, climb on the block to the left and then the next one. Shoot the wall on the left (as shown in this screenshot) and get the Silver Knife (2/5). Go up the steps of the Temple. The cut scene shows Lara going up the steps. Two mercenaries shoot at her before scarpering. [Note: This cut scene may not play if you climb up the blocks to the Silver Knife. If, after getting the Knife, you jump directly to the stairs and do not climb up the rest of the blocks (as shown in this screenshot), the cut scene will play. The mercenaries will then die and you will be able to pick up their Assault Rifle.] Enter the Temple and pick up the Assault Rifle (that will count as ammo if you have the gun) that one of the guards from the cut scene dropped (if the cut scene did not play, see the Note above). Go down the stairs. [Checkpoint] Kick one of the small rocks to activate the rotating spiked trap beyond. Notice the shimmering sign above. You will use the Grapple here. Run forward, jump at the edge and press Jump again whilst in midair to use the Grapple. Swing and jump to the opposite side. Go up the steps and through the narrow passage on the left, where you will find a Bronze Knife (8/10). Exit and enter the room with the chains. The brief cut scene shows the two chains in the middle of the room and an alcove above. Room with chains - As you have probably guessed, you need to jump from chain to chain. There is only one accesible chain at the moment and it is the right hand one in the middle (right if you have the entrance to your back). Grab it and climb up as much as you can. Now you need to jump and grab the other chain (in the middle of the room again), but when you do so, the chain starts moving down. So, quickly climb up (press the Interact button to climb quicker) and jump back to grab the first chain. Jump into the alcove. Continue through the tunnel, jump to grab the chain in the next room and climb to the bottom. Or hang from the edge of the alcove and drop down. Go through the opening in the wall and follow the passage. [Checkpoint] Jump into the water and swim through the underwater passage. Keep an eye above to spot the surface. Climb out of the water and get the Bronze Knife (9/10). Jump into the water again, swim to the other side of the passage and climb out of the water. [Checkpoint] Draw weapons, because a jaguar attacks when you go down the steps, so either kill it or totally ignore it. Boulder traps - Continue through the passage, but be careful, because there are huge boulders that threaten your safety. Carefully pass them to reach a room with a movable cage. Notice the other boulders on the left. You need to grab the cage and start pushing it between the second set of boulders. That way, the boulders will hit the cage and not Lara. You need to be careful however, because they may squeeze Lara when she reaches the second set or when she is close to the end and exits. To avoid the latter, you can push the cage until the middle of the second set, climb on the cage, drop down and exit freely. Go up the steps and follow the hallway to the next room. The cut scene shows Lara entering a big room. The mechanisms along the room deactivates and the stone door on the other side closes. Same as the door you came through. Room with stone door and mechanisms - [Checkpoint] You can use the Binoculars and examine the various objects to see which are movable and which are mechanisms. Before doing anything, go to the back right corner and climb on the ledge, where you will find a Bronze Knife (10/10). A jaguar is lurking below, so kill it from above. The crate puzzle - There is a movable cage close to the Bronze Knife and two more below. There are also three pressure plates, which means that each cage must be positioned on a plate. In fact, you need just two, as Lara can step on the third plate. Push\ pull the first cage (on the right), which is close to the plate. To put the other one on the upper level, you need to use the ramp on the left. Position the cage on the ramp (to the side that is closest to the entrance). You need to jump on the other side of the ramp and flip the cage on to the top level. You can use the steps at the end of the ledge in the middle of the room and jump on the ramp (as shown in this screenshot). If you want the Gold Knife, you need to position the cage on the middle plate. The camera shows that the stone door is ready to work. Now step on the left plate (if the entrance is to your back) and the door will start opening. When the door is half open (as shown in this screenshot), step off the plate. The door will remain half open, which will give you the access to the Knife. (Note: You may encounter a problem here. On stepping on the plate, a cut scene plays where it shows the door opening, blocking your way to the Gold Knife. In that case, do not step on the plate. Either perform a low somersault over the plate or run past it diagonally, as shown in this screenshot. That way, the door will not open during the cut scene. Then you can step on on the plate and step off when the door is half open.) Alternative method (by Brian C) - If the above method will not work for you, here is what you can do: Bring both cages on the top level. Position the first two cages on the left and right plates and lastly position the third cage on the middle plate (the middle plate must be done lastly). The cut scene that shows the door opening will play. Now facing the stone door, pull the middle cage off the plate and the door will close. The next part must be done quickly. Push the cage back on the plate and quickly turn around, run and pull off the either left or right cage. The door will then remain half open. Alternative method (by shimodax) - If the above methods fail for you, you can try the following (it is a way of getting the Knife even if you have already placed the three cages on the plates): First, bring both cages on the upper level and push\ pull the cages on the three plates (it does not matter the order) to fully open the door. Now first pull one of the side cages off the plate and then the middle one. The door will remain open. Go to the side plate from where you removed the cage and step on it, looking at the door at the same time. The door will start closing, so step off when it is halfway down. If you were not quick enough and the door closed or the door is half open but the chain (in the back left corner) you need to use in order to leave block your way (as shown in this screenshot), push the middle cage back on its plate and again go to the side plate and step on it. The door will start opening (slower this time), so step off when it's half open. In general, you can play between the middle and side plates until you make the door half open. When the middle cage is on its plate, the door opens when you step on the side plate. When the middle cage is not on its plate, the door closes when you step on the side plate. You can open and close the door as many times as you wish, until the door is half open and the chain you need to use in order to leave does not block your way. (Note: the second side cage must be on its plate all the time.) Once you solve the crate puzzle - Go to the back left corner (if the entrance is to your back) and climb on the ledge. Jump to grab the chain, then the opposite ledge. Traverse around to the right and when you see another ledge above you, jump to grab it. Pull up and grab the horizontal chain. Swing to the other side and drop down. Hang from the edge on the right, release and grab the ledge below. Shimmy to the right and jump to grab the horizontal pole. Swing and jump close to the exit door. [Checkpoint] Go to the other side, past the exit door, and jump to grab the ledge (as shown in this screenshot). Shimmy to the right and jump to grab the ledge above. Use the horizontal chain to reach the opposite side, where the Silver Knife (3/5) is. Get it and make your way back the same way you came. Before exiting and whilst facing the exit door, grab the either left or right crevice of the pillar. Jump to grab the crevice above, and then the door (as shown in this screenshot). Jump to grab the top of the door, then the ledge above. Enter the alcove and pick up the Gold Knife (1/1). [Checkpoint] Carefully, make your way down. Go through the exit. The passage harbours traps, so you need to press the correct buttons as they appear on your screen. You probably noticed the Silver Knife in the pit, but you will get in a while. Follow the next passage to the end. [Checkpoint] (Note: Many people encouter problems in the passage with the traps. Whe we say "press the correct buttons", we mean that you need to press the buttons that appear on your screen. On PC, for example, the icons that appear are the arrow keys. If the Up icon appears, you need to press the Up arrow key. On PS2, for example, the icons that appear are the four buttons on the right side of the gamepad. If the Circle icon appears, you need to press the Circle button. Note, however, that you need to press each button as soon as it appears, because you have less than two seconds.) Room with metalic weight poles - There is a jaguar lurking below and you may want to kill it from here. Hang from the edge and traverse to the right. Release and grab each ledge below to reach the ground. Locate the movable rock almost beneath the entrance (to the left if you face it, as shown here). Push it to the end and follow the passage on the right to reach the bottom of the pit you passed before. Pick up the Silver Knife (4/5) and return back. Climb on the ledge in the corner and jump to grab the closest metalic pole. It will rotate and give you access to the second pole. Jump to grab it and do the same for the third one. Once it rotates, jump to grab the ledge on the wall. Shimmy to the right and jump to grab the next ledge. Shimmy a bit to the right until the metalic pole is behind you. Jump to grab it (as shown here). Once it rotates, jump to grab the edge of the alcove. Pull up and get the Silver Knife (5/5). Jump back to grab the last pole. It will rotate towards the wall you came from. If you fall down, you need to use the metalic poles again until you reach the ledge just before grabbing the last pole leading to the Knife. When you reach it, shimmy to the right and jump to grab the ledge above. Again, shimmy to the right and grab the ledge above. Finally, jump to grab the ledge on the left. Shimmy left around the corner and drop to the ground. Follow the passage and climb on the ledge above. Go to the right and pass the rocks. [Checkpoint] Follow the passage to the end. In the cut scene Lara uses her Binoculars and watches some mercenaries beyond. When she spots the stone dais, she has a flashback of when she was a kid, because she has been in a similar place before. The flashback shows Lara entering a place. A man is laying dead in front of a sword. Lara approaches the sword and tries to touch it, but her mother comes and interrupts her. Lara pushes the sword in the stone and a green light is activated. A big metal circle rises up and her mother pulls her back and wonders what it is. Lara says that there is something in the light and her mother approaches the metal circle and it seems that she can see someone inside the light. She asks who he is. The person says something about Lara (probably because she was the one who activated the light) and her mother tells this person that Lara meant no harm. The voice seems to say "Pull out the sword". Lara's mother removes the sword and she disappears through a strong light! Lara finds a book and takes it with her. Back to the present, the mercenaries shoot at Lara, but a man orders them to hold their fire. He talks to Lara and tells her that he wanted to meet her. Lara still has her weapons drawn and the man says that he just wants to talk to her, whilst the camera shows a blonde woman in a helicopter. The man shows Lara a part of the sword and asks her is she has found a piece of this. A quick flash back reminds Lara that the piece that this man is holding is a part of the sword. Lara asks him where he found it. The man says that it does not matter where he found it, but what it does. He asks her if she knows, but Lara says that what she knows is her own business. The man then assumes that Lara does not have any piece. He turns his back to leave whilst saying to her that Amanda said that Lara was sloppy and that she should have paid more attention in Paraiso. Lara is surprised to hear the man talking about Amanda. She tells him that Amanda is dead and asks him what he knows about Paraiso. No more talking from him. When you regain control of Lara, you are on a bridge. Immediately run forwards because the bridge collapses. Jump over the gaps to reach the ground. This is the ornate stone dais you are looking for. The main objective is completed, but there are eight mercenaries around, so you need to kill them all. Some of them drop Health Packs and guns (which will count as ammo). [Checkpoint] When all are dead, the level ends. The cut scene shows Lara approaching the stone. She kneels and talks to herself. There is more than one. Her father was right. Zip asks Lara what this is about and Lara says they have some work ahead of them. Lara returns to Croft Manor. She enters Zip's office and asks him who the man she talked to in Bolivia was. Zip pulls a picture of the man up on his PC and says he is one of the Rutlands from the States. He is the senator's youngest son, James Rutland. Lara asks Zip to call up the footage, whilst Winston welcomes her back. She asks him to approach the computer screen and take a look at the place that Lara saw in Bolivia. She says it is almost identical (to the one she visited when she was young), but it was just configured differently. Alister gets into the conversation and asks "Identical to what?" and Lara replies of something that she saw a long time ago in Nepal. Winston asks Lara if she believes that it is a fragment of the sword, but before she replies, Alister asks about the sword. Lara replies that it is more likely one of a kind. Lara asks Zip to find out what he can about Rutland, particularly where he is at the moment. Zip advises Lara to try Peru, since he talked about Paraiso and she agrees since Rutland did imply information that the artifacts are there. Alister (who obviously has no idea what is going here) asks about Paraiso, what happened there and who Amanda is. Lara asks Alister to take the images and see what he can work out and asks Zip to call Anaya and tell her to meet Lara in Paraiso on Saturday morning. |
Level 2: PERU - Return to Paraiso
The cut scene shows Lara reaching Peru. The people run to hide and Lara says that they do not seem so keen on visitors these days. She asks Zip if he had news from Anaya and he tells her that Anaya will be waiting for her at the statue in the marketplace. When Lara met Rutland in Bolivia, he implied a connection between the stone dais and the ruin near Paraiso (you will see later what happened there). Lara wants to go there with Anaya and check some things, even if they will not find anything. So, you need to meet Anaya in the Paraiso marketplace and then learn the significance of the second Tiwanaku ruin. [Checkpoint] There is a dummy statue ahead that you can use and practice your target and shots. Just make sure you sure the Pistols with unlimited ammo. You can also see a ball on the right that you can kick. If you kick it behind the GOL! flags (as shown here), you will hear the homonymous cheering. Once you are done, go behind the house on the right (from the starting position) and climb on the box, then on the roof of the building (as shown in this screenshot). Without turning at all, take a look above to spot the shimmery lamp. You will jump and press Jump again whilst in midair to use the Grapple and catch the lamp. Then swing and jump to land on the opposite roof. Drop to the small courtyard and pick up the Bronze Statue (1/8). Push the movable crate next to the lowest building and use it to climb on the roofs and return back to the road. Follow the road around to the left. [Checkpoint] Pass the doorway to reach the statue in the marketplace. In the cut scene, Lara meets Anaya and they talk about the empty city and that something has frighten them. Anaya seems sad, because if she knew where this would lead, she would never have told Lara about Bolivia. She also tells her that La Paz is not far away. A truck full of mercenaries comes to the place. Lara tells Anaya to leave and that she will catch up (once she is done with them). Marketplace with statue - The objective about meeting Anaya is completed, but one more has been added. You need to escape the ambush and get out of town. Draw weapons, because four guards exited the truck. From the starting postion, you can shoot the oil tank of the truck ahead and explode some of the guards. When you kill them all, four more guards will emerge from two doors. Once you are done with them, a guys with a Shotgun will appear on a balcony; kill him. Some of them leave Health Packs. Replain your health and take the Health Packs you need. They also leave their guns, which will count as ammo. Go up the stairs of the church and use the part where there are no railings to jump on the stall. Or, climb on the stall from the ground (as shown in this screenshot). Jump to grab the ledge and go to the left. Jump to grab the horizontal pole, then the next one. Finally jump to the ledge and get the Bronze Statue (2/8). Drop to the ground. Locate the tall pole with the flag. To the right is a road that leads to a Bronze Statue (3/8) (as shown here). Get it and go back to the pole with the flag. Grab it and climb up. Jump to the balcony at the back and open the door of the building. Pick up the Silver Statue (1/2), exit and go to the left of the balcony. You need to jump to the opposite balcony, using the Grapple. So jump, and press Jump again to use the Grapple and catch the shimmery lamp above. Swing and jump to the balcony. The guard here dropped a Grenade and his Shotgun. Go around to the right and draw weapons. Kill the guard inside the building and pick up the Health Pack if you need it. There are also four Grenades on the table (Lara can carry up to four Grenades). (Note: When you kill the eight guards, the guy with the Shotgun appears on the balcony. If you do not shoot him from the ground and you go up and kill him face to face, the second guy in the room with the Grenades will not appear. This works for the PC version and, according to Ada the Mental, for PS2 too.) Second area with guards - [Checkpoint] Be prepared for a tough battle as soon as you open the door. You exit on a roof and five mercenaries shoot from the balconies\ roofs around and the ground. Stay on the roof and do NOT jump down. A couple of them throw Grenades that can kill Lara. To use a Grenade, lock the Target and press the Throw Grenade\ Flare button. Once you are done, either drop down to replain your Health and ammo or use the Grapple to catch the shimmery lamp above and jump to the opposite roof and get the items later. If you drop down, you can use the nearby ladder and climb up. A guard will attack from the building on the roof, so kill him. He drops his gun, which will count as ammo. There are more mercenaries around the corner, so it is better if you stay on the roofs and kill them from above, as you can back up. Soon, a jeep will arrive and stop close to a spot that you can explode. One of the mercenaries will use a big gun from the jeep, so take care of him first. Also, there are three more guards beyond the jeep (close to the motorbike), so kill them too. If you use the big gun, one more guard will appear from a passage opposite the stall. Take care of him and do not approach the motorbike, because you will trigger the next cut scene. When the coast is clear, replain your health and ammo. If you used Grenades during the fight, you will find some on the streets. Go behind the building opposite the stall, where you will find a Bronze Statue (4/8). Then go around the streets and approach the bike. Zip talks to Lara in the cut scene and tells her that Anaya left, but there are mercenaries after her. Lara asks Zip to tell Anaya that she is on her away. BIKE [Checkpoint] You just escaped the ambush and you are ready to get out of town with the bike. You now need catch up with Anaya. You get the bike [DUCATI ;) ] and you need to go after the mercenaries and kill them before they reach Anaya. Zip talks to you during the process. He says that you need to be quick, because the mercenaries will reach Anaya. Do not panic, but do not break all the time and do not stop, because you will lose and start over. Avoid the rocks in the middle of the road and the various obstacles. You will also need to shoot some wooden bars to clear your way and you will also find some Health Packs that you need to run over in order to get them. Soon, you will meet the mercenaries that are after Anaya. They are also on bikes, but Lara can shoot and kill them. They can also shoot you, so keep an eye on your health. The quicker you kill them, the sooner this part ends. Almost halfway, you will come across a bridge. [Checkpoint] Cross it, being careful of the gaps. Keep going, killing the mercenaries on your way. Soon, you will pass beneath a rock arch [Checkpoint] and meet three trucks. Stay on the left, because crates will start falling down from the right. There are two mercenaries on the front truck that will throw some crates. Shoot the crates and kill the threats. When the door of the truck fully opens, drive on it. In the cut scene Lara gets off the bike and jumps on the top of the truck to spot Anaya. Anaya sees Lara from the mirror of her car and breaks a bit in order to approach the truck. Lara jumps with a Matrix way, kills the driver of the truck and lands on Anaya's jeep. The truck turns over and explodes and the two ladies leave. Lara and Anaya reach the ruins. The place has not changed a lot. Lara confesses that there is something that did not tell Anaya before. She thinks that Amanda might not have died down there, showing the ruins at the same time. Lara flashes back. We see the same place, but some years ago. Young Lara and Amanda are together. Amanda slides down a rope and asks Lara to go down with her, because James (one of their friends) said that they are ready to break through (the young archaeologists probably found something). Lara follows her, but the rope breaks and Lara falls down. YOUNG LARA You play as young Lara and, of course, you do not have guns in your possession. You do however hold three Flares that you can use by using the Throw Grenade\ Flare button. [Checkpoint] Go down the stairs and crawl through the opening. Follow the tunnel and slide down the slope. Continue through the tunnel and jump to grab the horizontal pole to swing above the opening. If you accidentally fall down, you can climb back up and try again. Follow the tunnel. Eva (one of your friends) is thrown towards Amanda and some rocks fall down and block your way, leaving Amanda behind, who sounds really scared. Go back and enter the tunnel on the left (if you have the rocks to your back). At the end, crawl beneath the railings. [Checkpoint] Lara finds Sarah (one of her friends) dead and wonders what happened. There is a pressure pad on the right. Step on it to activate some poles alongside (some of them are broken). Locate the movable block next to Sarah and push\ pull it beneath the horizontal pole. Jump on the crate then jump to grab the pole. Turn to face the ledge, swing and jump to grab it. Pull up and pick up the Bronze Statue (5/8) from the right. Jump to grab the narrow ledge on the wall. Traverse to the left and jump into the alcove above the ascent. [Checkpoint] Head forwards and drop down. Lara finds another friend. Someone calls her, and she recognizes the voice. It is Kent. Go to the right, avoiding the poles that are harmful to find Kent behind a gate. Lara asks what happened and he says that it killed Oscar (the other man that Lara found on the ground). Lara asks "What did?". Kent does not know and he also says he cannot get out because the gates won't budge and he asks her to get him out. He also tells her that there is a hole above him and they should get out quickly. Pull the ball away from the pressure pad to remove the poles. Climb on the ledge oposite the way you came from and jump to grab the rope. Turn left to face the ledge above Kent, swing and jump on it. Pass the gates [Checkpoint] and jump down. In the cut scene Kent calls for Amanda. She replies back and Kent recognizes her voice. He runs towards the way the voice was heard. Lara shouts at Kent to wait, but he does not listen to her. A creature grabs Kent and Lara runs back. The creature starts chasing Lara. When you regain control of Lara, run foward and jump above the rocks to escape from the creature. Once you fall down, the creature disappears through the opposite wall. [Checkpoint] The are some crates in this area. All of them but two break when Lara jumps on them. There is a pressure pad on the other side of the room. Either kick one the crates on the pad or climb on the ledge and push the ball that it will roll over it. This will make a pole appear. If the ball rolls beyond the pad, push\ pull it on it. Climb on the ledge where the ball was and jump to grab the upper ledge with the bars. Amanda, who is behind the gate, says Lara that Jason is dead and that she does not know what happened. The creature appears, and Amanda gets scared and leaves. A man runs behind Amanda and the creature behind them. Jump to grab the pole and then the rope. Swing and jump to the opposite ledge. [Checkpoint] Go to the right and pick up the Bronze Statue (6/8). Go through the doorway and follow the tunnel. Be careful of the spiked pit in the floor. Grab the pole above and travesre across. Follow the tunnel to the end. The cut scene shows Lara exiting the ruins, calling Amanda. Amanda shows Lara a stone and says she thinks that it unlocks the door. Lara says that she does not like the idea of using the stone and asks Amanda if she read it properly (meaning the inscription). Amanda reminds Lara that the creature is coming and asks Lara if she has a better idea. Lara says to Amanda that the door might be trapped, but Amanda says that they are trapped. The creature attacks and Ammnda pulls the stone out. On doing that, the creature disappears. The place starts shaking and rocks fall from above. They run to escape. Lara manages to exit, but Amanda's leg was trapped somewhere. The gate starts closing, but Lara tries to keep it open, by holding it with her hands. She is waiting for Amanda, who cannot escape. The place starts filling water, but Amanda still cannot escape. Lara cannot hold the gate and it closes. Rocks fall on Amanda and Lara leaves to get some air. Back to present, Anaya says that this is a terrible idea and they should leave the past behind. Lara says she is trying, but from what Rutland said, there might be a clue down there about what killed her mother, so Lara decides to go back. Anaya tells her that she cannot enter from the same place, because it is caved in. Lara says that the water entered there somehow, so there must be a way. She says Anaya that if she has any problem, she can talk to Zip who can communicate with Lara. RUINS [Checkpoint] Run behind the boxes on the left and pick up the Bronze Statue (7/8). Go to the other side of the area (where the pool is) and search for a Bronze Statue (8/8) between the wooden supports. Jump into the water and swim down and through the tunnel. Follow it as it goes and keep and eye above to spot the surface. Take some air and dive back down. Follow the tunnel to the other side and swim between the broken bars. Again, you can find a spot where you can surface above. Continue through the tunnel until you reach a circular big underwater room. Here you can surface. [Checkpoint] The water puzzle - This is the area where Amanda was drown. Dive down and enter the passage, which is on the right as you entered this area. Get the Silver Statue (2/2) and return to get some air (or get it after solving the puzzle). You need to pull the four blue spheres, but they need be out together at the same time. Every time you pull one, it remains out for some seconds. You then need to swim around and pull the other three, so that all of them are out together. To avoid a possible drowning, try this: Surface above a sphere and dive down. Press the Interact button to pull it, then continue to the next sphere, pressing the Interact button whilst swimming to move faster. Keep pressing the Interact button to swim faster as you approach the sphere and Lara will grab it easier. When you succeed, the cut scene shows Lara surfacing. A door opens and the room drains. Lara finds a shoe and assumes it belongs to Amanda. The shoe is unlaced, but she never imagined that Amanda could have survived. There is an opening in one of the walls. Jump through it and approach the archaeological stone above. [Checkpoint] In the cut scene Lara reads the inscription on the stone. She says that it tells about the last Queen on Tiwanaku. Her father was King, but she was lost and raised by a warrior. She became a Queen when a shaman (named Tunupa) discovered her loyalty heritage. Alister tells her that Tunupa is another name of Viracocha, their god of creation and according to myth, Virachoca lived in the lake Titicaca. She led her people in an era of peace. After many years of justice and just rule, there was some sort of power struggle and she died shortly thereafter. She was carried off in a boat to Paradise. This reminds Lara King Arthur's myth, because the similarities are striking. He was a youth, who was not aware of his royal blood and became a wise king with the help of a wizard and the magical staff of his sword. He died and was transported to Paradise. Go behind the stone and through the doorway. Grab the ledge on the left, then jump to grab the next one above. Jump to grab the ledge behind you and pull up. Jump off the ledge and press Jump again whilst in midair to use the Grapple and catch the shimmering sign above. Swing and jump to the ground above the ascent. Grab the ledge above the shallow water, then jump to grab the edge of the alcove above. Pull up and turn to face the next ascent. You need to use the Grapple again and land above the ascent. So, jump off the ledge and press Jump again whilst in midair to use the Grapple and catch the shimmering sign above. Swing and drop to the ground above the ascent. Continue upwards and up the steps. [Checkpoint] The floor collapses beneath Lara in the next interactive movie. Press the appropriate buttons to save her. (PS2 players - The first icon that appears means that you need to use the left analog stick. The Up arrow that appears along with the icon means that you need to move the left analog stick upwards. PC players - The last icon that appears is the Right arrow.) (Note: Many people encouter problems with this movie. Sometimes, you need to use the left analog stick and move it to the direction the arrow shows. Note, however, that you need to press each button as soon as it appears, because you have less than two seconds.) The ball puzzle - [Checkpoint] There are three pressure plates and three movable balls: one on the ground, one on a ledge above and another one to the left of the starting position, where you need to use the Grapple to throw it down (as shown here). Back up a bit and use the Grapple to throw the ball. Push the two balls to the left and right plates (at least start with the right one). Placing each ball, the corresponding statue on the left and right open, revealing some ladders. You cannot reach the left ladders, so go to the right. Climb up either ladder and jump to grab the ledge in the middle. Then jump to grab the ledge above (which is the statue's mouth). Jump to grab the ledge above (the statue's head) and jump to grab either ladder. Then climb to the top. Push the third ball below. Carefully make your way down and push the ball to the middle plate. The cut scene shows a tomb rising and a door opening. Lara approaches the tomb and says it is the queen's shaman. It is a dais with a sword on it and in this case it is Viracocha's staff. Alister asks if it is the same that Lara saw in Tiwanaku and she says that there is more than one dais, but possible yes. Zip, comparing the stories of King Arthur and Tiwanaku's Queen, says that in this case the shaman would be Merlin and the staff whatever King Arthur's sword was called. Alister says that it is a coincidence. Climb up either ladder close to the door that opened. The cut scene shows Lara going through the door and approaching a sword. Lara watches Queen's statue above and says that she is beautiful. Lara asks Zip if he sees something familiar on the sword and he says that this is what Rutland was holding. This one, though, is a ceremonial copy. Lara finds a part of the swrord that has broken off. Lara has seen this before at Waseda University in Japan. The piece, however, is not there anymore, because it was stolen by Shogo Takamoto. While Lara takes the piece and leaves, she asks Zip to arrange a meeting with Takamoto. Zip, however, asks her not to deal with Yakuza (Japanese mafia). Lara wants the piece and insists on this meeting. Zip will take care of that and he also tells her that he had a call from Anaya. He patches her though and she tells Lara that the bastrards from town are there and are coming down after Lara. This is a tomb and Lara will make them feel at home. Going back to Anaya - [Checkpoint] After the cut scene, exit but do not drop down. Climb on the ledge on the right and jump to grab the upper one. Pull up and jump to grab the ladder. Then climb to the top. Go to the left and jump to the stone ledge. Jump to grab the narrow ledge and shimmy left around the corner. When you reach the destoyed part of the ledge, jump to grab the next one. Do the same for the next broken ledge. Shimmy left and release to grab the three ledges below. Then drop to the ground. Jump to grab the rope, and climb up a bit. There are two stone ledges ahead. The left one is quite destroyed, but aim for the narrow ledge above it (as shown in this screenshot). Swing and jump to grab it. Shimmy to the left until you reach the collapsed part. Jump to the next ledge and keep shimming left. Pull into the opening and go up the passage on the right where you will find a movable ball. Push it and it will roll down. It will break the wall and end to the ground. Carefully make you way down and push the ball on the middle pressure plate. The tomb will rise more and reveal the Gold Statue (1/1). Get it and make your way back to the rope, the same way as you did before. Swing and this time jump to the ledge on the right. Jump to the next ledge and draw weapons. Two mercenaries are waiting on the ground, so slide down and kill them. Pick up the items they dropped if you need them and exit with your weapons drawn. One more guard is waiting at the bottom of the ascent, so kill him. Slide down the slope and exit to the room with the inscription. [Checkpoint] There are three guards behind the wall. You can kill them from here then climb through the opening. Replain your health and ammo with the items the guard dropped. Take a look around to spot the the rope. Grab it and climb almost to the top. Swing and jump to the ledge in front of the opening. [Checkpoint] Go up the ascent, climbing up the blocks. At the end, climb up the ladder. When you reach the top, look for a ledge on the left. Grab it and jump to grab the ledge above. Pull up and draw weapons. Kill the guard and pick up the items he drops (if you need them). Climb on the above ledge and grab the pole. Climb to the very top and jump to the ground. Immediately draw weapons. The place is full of mercenaries and you can see two of them in front of you. Kill them and then take care of the rest eight. As you kill them, try to get the items they drop (Health packs, ammo and Grenades) so that you can continue the battle. When you kill them all, Lara asks Zip to tell Anaya to get under the jeep because someone is coming close to her. Once you kill the last guard, a cut scene plays. In the cut scene, Anaya hopes that Lara found what she was looking for, because she is not coming to this place again. Lara shows her Amanda's shoe. This is what was only left. Anaya wonders why Amanda was hiding all these years, but Lara says that Amanda is not hiding, but she probably does not want to keep in touch with old friends. Or maybe she found or learned something down there that she wanted to keep to herself. Lara then asks Zip if he talked to Takamoto. Zip replies "yes", but Takamoto does not want to meet her. Nishimura (one of Lara's good friends) is having a party though and Takamoto will be there. And since he does not know that Nishimura is Lara's friend, they will meet there. Lara returns to Croft Manor, because she needs to find something nice to wear. |
Level 3: JAPAN - Meeting with Takamoto
In the cut scene, Lara exits the elevator and reaches Nishimura's party, wearing a beautiful dress. Zips asks her what happened the last time she met with Takamoto and Lara says that he was trying to pass off forged relics from the Asuka period. Lara let him go though, so that's why now they are going to have a useful conversation. Lara has not seen Takamoto in a long time, but he probably does not miss her after what happened the last time they spoke. So, acquiring his sword fragment will not be easy. [Checkpoint] Zips tells Lara that he got a call from Nishimura. He is in his office and she first needs to talk to the bartender. Head forwards and down either of the stairs to reach the main area of the party. As you have noticed by now, Lara does not jog. She walks like a real lady and she cannot jump (for now). You can see the bartender on the left, and you can also see two hallways: one next to each set of stairs. The left hand hallway leads to an elevator that you cannot use now and the right one to Nishimura's office. You cannot enter, as you need to talk to the bartender first. Talk to the bartender. Lara says that Nishimura is expecting her and the bartender says that she can find him in his office, which is at the end of the hall behind her. He will let Nishimura know that Lara has arrived. You now have to meet Nishimura in his office and meet Takamoto at the party. Go to the right hand hallway (if the entrance is to your back) and open the door to Nishimura's office. In the cut scene Nishimura welcomes Lara and he hopes that she is enjoying his party. Lara replies in Japanese, meaning that she is enjoying it very much, although when Takamoto arrives, it may cause him inconvenience. Nishimura asks her to take care, because he is a dangerous man when his interests differ from someone esle's. Lara replies that she can be really persuasive, even with dangerous men. Nishimura is convinced, since he is dangerous too. He then asks her to enjoy the party while she can and wishes her luck. Lara then exits the office. Head forwards. When Lara returns back to the main area of the party, the cut scene shows the guests leaving. Mercenaries are everywhere. Lara looks around and spots Takamoto, who immediately talks to her and asks her to be brief, because he has many demands on his time. Lara gets straight into the point and he tells him she is looking for a piece - a sword fragment - that he stole from the Wesada University. Takamoto says he is not a thief and she should avoid these kind of accusations. Lara suggests to skip to the negotiations. Takamoto insists that he has no idea of what she is talking about, but Lara asks him to just name a price. Takamoto gets angry "Miss Croft! Are you deaf?", "I don't know. Let's see", she replies. She then asks him to beg for his life, like he did the last time they spoke. Takamoto orders his men to kill her. They start firing, but Lara jumps behind the bar. She takes off her pumps and tears a part of her dress, revealing the holsters. She pulls out the gun and as a mercenary approaches, she kills him. [Checkpoint] Immediately draw weapons (you have only the Pistols with unlimited ammo) and shoot the three mercenaries. Try to pick up one of the Health Packs and Assault Rifle they drop. Take a Health Pack if you need it and use one of their gun. Four more mercenaries will come from the side hallway, so take care of them too. When all are dead, the cut scene shows Nishimura appearing from his office. Zip asks Lara where she found the weapons and she replies that they are basic etiquette and she could never go to a party with empty hands. Nishimura tells Lara that Takamoto has most probably returned to his penthouse, but he advices her not to follow him, because his men will be waiting. Zip tells her that his lobby is a death trap and although Lara likes it, it is not a winning option. Lara, forever the adventurer, replies "If I can't go down, I'll go up". She asks Nishimura how she can get to the roof. He says from the elevator and gives her a pass card. Although Zip does not like the idea, Lara tells him she in on her way, as Nishimura gave her the pass to the elevator. You have to get to the roof of Nishimura's building, find a way over to Takamoto's building and catch up with him. Pick up the goodies the mercenaries dropped: Grenedes, Health Packs, and ammo (if you managed to pick up the gun during the battle). Now you have available all moves. Follow the left hand hallway (if the entrance is to your back) and use the pass to enter the elevator. In the cut scene, Lara enters the elevator. We then see her (from an outside view) going up. On the roof - As soon as you exit the elevator, head fowards and approach the glass door. Lara and Zip talk about a bike that is locked in the room. Go to the left and through the doorway to exit to the roof of Nishimura's building. [Checkpoint] Go to the right to hear Zip talking. He says that the building across is Takamoto's. Lara says that he is likely on the top floor and that this requires some creativity. So, apart from reaching Takamoto's building, you also need to get to the top floor of it. Draw weapons and shoot the barrel behind the grates. It will explode them and you can use the metalic pole behind. Climb up it and jump to the ledge on the right. Climb to the roof above and go to the left. Walk on the glassed part of the roof and jump to grab the topmost ledge. Enable the Accurate Aim and shoot the crate. Pick up the Bronze Buddha (1/6) and jump back down. [Note: The Accurate Aim allows you manually aim at various objects. On the PC version it is the Z button (by default). The PS2 players need to press the right analog stick. Press it down (not move it down) and you will feel a "click". We are not aware of the other versions, but you can check the Control Configuration of the game. You will see it as either Accurate Aim or Manual Aim.] Notice the small shimmering raised part of the glass roof. Use the Grapple to pull it back and drop through the opening. Go down the steps to reach the room with the bike. There are two more crates. The one is beneath the stairs that contains a Bronze Buddha (2/6). The other one that contains a Silver Buddha (1/4) is located exactly opposite, between the boxes that you need to move. [Checkpoint] Get the bike (DUCATI again) and drive outside to the roof. [Checkpoint] Go to the right around the corner, where the huge blue pipes are. You need to use the ramp between the pipes and jump the bike across the road to land on the ledge. Accelerate!! The jump will be done in a movie, but you need to be prepared and press the correct buttons to save Lara. She will need to grab a rope, safely drop on the ledge and finally avoid the flaming barrels that are ready to explode. Going to Takamoto's penthouse passing from the constructions - [Checkpoint] There are two levels of scaffolding. First go to the bottom one and jump the gap. There is a crate at the end that hides a Bronze Buddha (3/6), so use the Accurate Aim (check the Note above) and shoot it. Go back and climb to the topmost ledge (the one you started from after the cut scene). Jump to grab the horizontal pole and then jump to the scaffolding ahead. It will bend if you move to the other side, so run and quickly jump to grab the next scaffolding. Pull up. Enable the Accurate Aim (check the Note above) and shoot the circular metalic support (as shown in this screenshot). It will break and throw the obstacle down, releasing a rope. Jump to grab the rope, swing and jump to the opposite scaffolding. Go to the end. [Checkpoint] Jump to grab the wire and Lara will slide to the ledge of the opposite building. [Checkpoint] Turn left and use the Grapple to catch the metalic hanging ledge ahead. Pull it and release the Grabble. The scaffolding will start swinging. When it comes towards you, jump to grab it (or land on it). You can either wait for it to stop or complete the next part whlist the ledge is swinging. Run, jump at the edge and press Jump again to use the Grapple and catch the shimmering lamp above. Turn right, swing and jump to the square metal ledge. [Checkpoint] Again, you need to use the Grapple, catch the metallic hanging ledge and make it swing. Jump on it and whilst the ledge is swinging, jump to the opposite one. Use the Grapple again to catch the shimmering lamp whilst in mid-air. Turn right, swing and jump to Takamoto's building. [Checkpoint] Takamoto's building - Three guards and two dogs will appear from the other side of the area. You can jump on the ledge with the plants in the middle. That way you will avoid the annoying bite from the dogs and if a guard approaches a flaming lamp, you can explode it and kill him. When you have killed everything that moves, pick up the goodies: Health Packs, Grenades and guns (which will count as ammo) the guards dropped. Inside the building - Go around the corner and open the door. You can see steps that go up and down. First go down. Kick the boxes and shoot the crate that reveals a Bronze Buddha (4/6). Go back and up the next stairs. The hallway leads to a door, but wait until you get the next Buddha. Continue up the steps to reach the top ledge. Drop to the pipes and carefully walk to the left. Jump to grab the top ledge on the left. Shimmy to the very right and jump to the pipes behind. Shoot the crate and pick up the Silver Buddha (2/4). Make your way down to the hallway. Stock Market offices - Follow the hallway and open the door to reach a room with offices, which seems to work as a stock market. [Checkpoint] Five guards will attack: three on the ground and two on the ledge next to the doorway. A sixth guard may attack a bit later if not together with the other five, so stay sharp. Pick up the Health Packs, Grenades and guns they drop if you need them. A couple of them will drop their Shotgun, but if you decide to get it, you will need to leave your gun. Go up the short stairs to reach the ledge next to the doorway. Open the left metal locker to get a Silver Buddha (3/4). Go to the office in the far left corner (if the entrance is to your back) and shoot the crate to get the Bronze Buddha (5/6). Use the Grapple to catch the huge TV screen; pull it. Enable the Accurate Aim (see the Note above) and shoot the two metal supports that hold the screen (as shown in this screenshot). If you cannot catch the screen or shoot the metal supports, jump on the office in front of the screen. The latter will fall down, revealing a room behind. Draw weapons and kill the two guards. You may be able to kill one of them from here. Otherwise, grab the screen, pull up and finish them off. They leave a Grenade, a Health Pack and two guns (which will count as ammo). Open the door at the back. The cut scene shows the building you just exited and it focus on a ledge at the top. Climbing up the building - [Checkpoint] You need to reach that ledge, climbing up the building. Grab the pole on the left (if the entrance is to your back) and climb up. Jump to grab the ledge with the air condition, shimmy to the right around the corner and jump to grab the ledge above. Pull up. Turn left and use the Grapple to catch the support of the sign; pull it down. Jump to grab it and pull up. Go to the other side and jump to grab the next ledge; pull up. Climb up the ladder to reach the ledge above. [Checkpoint] Again, use the Grapple to rotate the next support of the sign. Jump to grab the pole, then the ledge ahead; pull up. Grab the vertical pole, climb up it and jump to the topmost ledge behind you. Jump to grab the thin pole on the right. Climb up and jump to grab the horizontal pole of the ledge above the one you were standing on before. Lara's weight will rotate it. Turn around, swing and jump to grab the previous pole. Climb up and jump to the ledge that you rotated before. This ledge will bend backwards (to its initial position) if you stand on the other side. So, run and quickly jump to the square ledge ahead. [Checkpoint] You will need to grab the pole ahead, climb to the top and use some horizontal poles. They collapse after a few seconds, so you need to be quick. Jump to grab the pole and climb up. It will start falling when you reach the top. Quickly jump to grab the horizontal pole. Swing and use the other three poles quickly to reach the balcony which is the top of Takamoto's building. Waiting room - Open the door to the waiting room (?) and draw weapons. [Checkpoint] Three guards are waiting at the bottom of the stairs, so kill them from here. A fourth one appears in a while, so wait and kill him too. Do not go down before killing those. There are two more guards that shoot from a balcony on the right, which makes your job harder. Be careful, however, because the last pair may come from behind you. You can also shoot the chandelier as you enter the area. It will fall down, hopefully killing some of the threats. Once you are done with everyone, pick up whatever you need. They leave Health Packs, Grenades and guns (which will count as ammo). One of them drops a Shotgun. Go up the steps and enter the lounge on the left. This way gets you to the balcony, where the pair of guards were shooting from before. Shoot the crate and pick up the Bronze Buddha (6/6). Go back down the stairs and enter the room in the back left corner. Open the middle metal locker on the left to get a Silver Buddha (4/4). Exit, and go through the door at the far left. [Checkpoint] Hallway with turret - Halfway through the hallway, Zip tells you about the turret at the end of the other hall. So, do not go there yet. Enter the control panel on the left and go to the other side. Use the button (next to fire extinguisher) to activate the sprinkler in the hall with the turret. As you can see, moving lasers that enable the turret protects the hall, so good thinking, as Zip says. You can explode the extinguisher, but it damages Lara if you are close. There is also a yellow button on the left that you can press and use the security camera which will show you a room with a hanging dragon, the waiting room you passed before and a room with three guns on a table. Exit the office and grab the ball on the left. The deal here is to push the ball in the hallway with lasers. The turret will be activated, but if you push the ball and are behind it, the turret will hit the ball. Keep pushing the ball until you reach the end, where there are no lasers. Wait a bit and the turret will stop. Continue to the hallway with the green walls. [Checkpoint] Approach the door on the left and it will open automatically. Go through it. In the cut scene, Takamoto appears in his office, which is located behind a glass above. He tells Lara that she should not have come here. Lara asks him to tell her about the sword. He is very upset and asks Lara why it is so fascinating about her. Lara will tell him if she takes a look at it. Takamoto replies that her persistence will be death for her. When the cut scene ends, two doors slide and three guards start shooting. Takamoto of course left. Draw weapons and kill them. Then pick up whatever you need among the Health Packs, guns and Grenades they drop. Use the Grapple to catch the shimmering circle at the front side of the dragon that is hanging above. Back up as much as you can and pull it. The farther, the higher momentum it gets. Eventually, it will break the windows oposite. Draw weapons, beacause two guards will start shooting. Kill them both. Climb on the box beneath the window, jump to grab the edge and pull up. [Checkpoint] Go to the right, where Takamoto appeared. Get the three Assault Rifles from the desk (they will count as ammo if you carry this gun). Pull the redish movale box out of the office and push it through the broken windows. It will fall down and break. Drop down and pick up the Gold Buddha (1/1). Climb back up and push the button to call the elevator. Get into. The cut scene shows Lara inside the elevator. When she exits, she takes a look around. Takamoto appears, holding the sword fragment, and says that she disrespected him, broke into his house and killed his men. Lara wants what he possesses, but he will not let her take it that easily. Destroying Takamoto - [Checkpoint] It is obvious that the sword gives power to its possessor. Takamoto will use it to kill you, because the sword throws a green harmful light that takes some of your health when it hits you. Apart from him, there are four turrets that start shooting at you. Takamoto is standing on the ledge above, so do not stay on the ground. Go behind one of the statues, grab the pole, climb up and jump to the ledge, where Takamoto is standing and the turrets cannot spot you. Use a pole that is opposite him. Stay away from him. The farther, the better. Position Lara behind one of the statues and keep your weapons drawn. The green light cannot hit you if you stay behind the statue. Make sure you stay in the middle, where the part of the statue is higher (as shown in this screenshot). When Takamoto stops using the sword, and whilst having your weapons drawn, reveal yourself and shoot him. When you see him using the sword, go hide again behind the statue. Sometimes the light hits you, because Takamoto is not exactly opposite you. If he is a bit diagonally opposite, every time he throws the light, run forwards and Lara will grab the ledge. That way, the light cannot hit you (if you hang behind the statue). If he moves to a statue next to you, move behind another statue and stay opposite him. You can see Takamoto's life at the top right corner of your screen. Alternative method - The above procedure takes some time, which is not helpful at all if you play in Time Trial mode. Here is another quicker strategy: When Takamoto fires his bolts, they come either high or low. If they are high, you need to Crouch to avoid them. If they are low, you need to Jump over them. As soon as you climb on the ledge where Takamoto is, run after him. As you approach him, avoid his bolts, by either jumping over or rolling beneath them. Do not approach him much, because you will probably not have time to avoid his bolts. Stay 10ft. (about 3 meters) away from him and jump over\ crouch beneath the bolts. Be careful, however, because Takamoto will probably fire vertical bolts that you will need to avoid by side-jumping. Soon, Takamoto will stop and need a couple of moments in order to start firing his bolts again, which is a really helpful time to start shooting at him. If you have a powerful weapon with you, he will lose about one third of his health. Repeat this procedure once or twice, and he will go down after one minute or so. (Thanks to Mona Sax for this method.) When Takamoto dies, the cut scene shows Lara getting the sword fragment. Alister is suprised by the sword's power. Nishimura brought a helicopter for Lara and is now waiting outside for her. Nishimura throws a ladder and Lara climbs up it. When she reaches the top and enters the helicopter, she is very relived she found him here. Nishimura asks what happened to Takamoto and where he is. Lara says it depends on whether he was naughty or nice. Zip says that he found Rutland and asks Lara is she wants to go to Ghana. Lara of course wants to go, as Africa is one of her favorites continents. 4: GHANA - Persuing James Rutland
